Fractures

Metal, ciment, plaster and mirror

3,50m x6m

Park of the Madeleine, Bourg-en-Bresse, France

Assisted by Agathe Lepoutre and Laurent Espiasse

his sculpture refers to the history of this place, when faith and madness lived together in this park which for a very long time hosted an asylum for women ruled by nones, before turning into a psychiatric hospital.

For more than two centuries, patients were locked in, isolated from the world, wandered in this park. Walks which were undoubtedly for them their only distraction, their only means of escape. The Park of la Madeleine witnessed a time when faith took care of madness. However, the border between these two sometimes raises questions. Like mental disorders, the sculpture “Fractures” intends to reflect the chaos that can emerge within us.
